One lesson that I wish I had learned earlier on was to use my adviser effectively. Their whole job is to help students pick the best courses and to maintain momentum towards earning your degree. They are also your advocate if things go haywire in your life and you need to drop classes or need other special attention. The best part---it's a free service!!
